About Seed
Seed is operated by Swyft Payments LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Aura Laboratories LLC. Seed is a for-profit platform, not a charity: your donations go to the nonprofit organizations you choose, and Seed's revenue is the fee described below. Seed round-ups are intended as voluntary sadaqah; they do not automatically fulfill a zakat obligation.
Eligibility
To give with Seed you must have reached the age of majority where you live (18 in most U.S. states; 19 in Alabama and Nebraska; 21 in Mississippi), be able to enter a binding contract, and own or be authorized to debit the bank account you connect. Seed's payment and bank-data providers require this, so Seed is not available to minors, including with a parent's or guardian's permission.
Your authorization
Giving starts only when you authorize it in the Seed app. When you connect your funding bank, Stripe, Seed's payment processor, shows its bank debit authorization; when you tap Complete setup, you accept Seed's authorization summary, which lists the charges below. Together they are your authorization, and these Terms explain it in full. Stripe emails you a confirmation of the bank authorization. Seed keeps a record of when you authorized and the summary you accepted; email team@givewithseed.com for a copy.
Collections
Seed records the round-up on each tracked card purchase. When your recorded round-ups reach $5.00, Seed collects $5.00 from your connected bank by ACH debit (plus any bank-data charge described below). Of the $5.00, 35¢ (7%) is Seed's fee and $4.65 is allocated to the organization you had selected when the round-ups were recorded. Anything over $5.00 waits for the next collection. Purchases count from when you authorize, unless you choose to give your past round-ups (below). A round-up is not a donation until it is collected; a collection in progress is not a completed donation.
Bank-data charge
Seed pays its data provider for each bank whose purchases it tracks for you. You reimburse 30¢ for each bank Seed tracks for you during a calendar month, even if you track it for only part of the month; several accounts at the same bank count as one bank. There is no limit on the number of banks: one bank is 30¢ a month, two are 60¢, three are 90¢, and so on. This charge is not a donation, is not part of the 7%, and is never included in your organization's allocation or in any acknowledgment. It is added to your next debit, whether a collection or a past round-ups payment, on top of your monthly limit if you set one: with one bank, your first collection of the month is $5.30. If there is no debit in a month, Seed debits the unpaid charges on their own after the month ends, in whole 30¢ bank-months, at least 60¢ at a time (Stripe's minimum debit is 50¢); a single 30¢ is carried to your next collection or combined with a later month's charge. Each bank-month is charged once, and a charge whose debit failed or was returned is not charged again. While giving is paused or after you withdraw this authorization, Seed debits nothing, including an unpaid bank-data charge; if you authorize Seed again later, unpaid bank-months from before are collected under the new authorization.
Your limit and controls
A monthly limit is optional and starts at $5. If you set one, it caps your donations in a calendar month, Seed's fee included. The bank-data charge is added on top, and a past round-ups payment you approve doesn't count toward it. Without one, Seed collects $5.00 each time your round-ups reach $5.00, plus any bank-data charge, with no monthly cap. You can pause giving, change your organization or limit, unlink a bank, or delete your account at any time in Settings, and withdraw this authorization at any time (below). Changes apply to future collections; a collection already submitted completes or returns on its own.
Withdrawing your authorization
You can withdraw at any time by emailing team@givewithseed.com, or by deleting your account in Settings. Seed starts no new collection after your withdrawal is recorded: when Seed processes your email, or at once when you delete your account. A collection already submitted to your bank completes or returns on its own. You can also contact your bank.
Changes
Seed will notify you at least 7 days before changing when or how it debits your bank. A change to the amounts described here needs your new authorization in the app before it applies.
Failures and returns
If a debit fails or your bank returns it, Seed does not retry it. You'll be asked to reconnect a bank before giving continues. A returned donation is reversed to the organization's record, not re-collected.
Past round-ups
When you link your cards, Seed can see earlier purchases your bank shares, often several months. Seed asks you once whether to give the round-ups from those purchases. If you choose to give them, Seed shows the exact amount and the bank it comes from, and debits it only after you confirm, as one ACH payment. Seed's fee is 7% of that amount, rounded to the nearest cent; the rest is allocated to the organization you selected. If it is your first debit of the month, the bank-data charge described above is added to it and shown before you confirm; it isn't charged again that month. The payment doesn't count toward your monthly limit. If you choose to start from today, earlier purchases are never collected. You can change your choice in Activity, under Before Seed, until a past round-ups payment is made; a payment already submitted completes or returns on its own.
One-time gifts
On the page of an organization that holds Apple's nonprofit approval, you can also give once with Apple Pay, from $10 to $1,000. Seed's fee is 7% of the gift, which covers card processing; the rest is allocated to the organization. A gift is a single card payment: it doesn't authorize any future payment, debit your bank or change your round-ups. Stripe emails your receipt, and your organization provides your donation acknowledgment. If a gift is refunded or disputed, it is reversed from the organization's record.
Records
Seed shows every collection, its fee, the organization's allocation, any bank-data charge, and every transfer, in Activity. Seed does not issue tax receipts; your organization provides acknowledgments.
